Who will be the two Lloyd G. Cunningham students selected to represent our school at the Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship?

All Cunningham fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students are eligible to compete at our school site competition. Round 1 of the Cunningham school competition begins in our classroom during normal classroom hours. A test of 10 words selected from the official Stanislaus County Final Elementary Spelling Word Book  will be administered by September 21. All students who score 80% or better on the test will advance to the Cunningham School Round 2 competition. Round 2 spelling words will be chosen at random from the same official list.

The three top spellers will receive additional information and instruction at that time.

How should I prepare for the competition?

  1. Look over the Spelling Competition Rules. The Stanislaus County Elementary Spelling Championship is a written test unlike the Scripps Spelling Bee which is an oral test.
  2. Download a copy of the Final Elementary Spelling Word Book so you have an idea of what words you will need to spell. Many students make cards for each word, categorize the words by spelling patterns or word origin, then start practicing with the words.

If I'm chosen to represent L. G. Cunningham school, how will I get to the official event on November 3?

If you are chosen to represent our school in the Spelling Championship, you and your family will be responsible to arrive at the location well before 5:00 pm on November 3.
